Job Description
The primary focus of the Alejandro Gutierrez lab is to define the molecular mechanisms underlying resistance to cancer therapies and to translate these findings into novel therapeutic strategies. The lab will be relocating to St. Jude in July 2024.The successful candidate will have experience in facilitating operational aspects of a research laboratory, including lab equipment maintenance, supply ordering, developing laboratory policies and standard operating procedures to support efficient operations, and coordinating budget activities for the laboratory, including monitoring and analyzing expenses. Strong organizational skills are highly desired.Education and knowledge of the molecular biology of cancer and/or cancer resistance to treatment is helpful but not essential. Participation in laboratory research experiments may be needed at times. Skill and ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, as well as the ability to teach laboratory methods and train laboratory staff, are highly desired. The successful candidate will be expected to have strong leadership skills in order to best support all staff within the laboratory.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the development of laboratory policies and standard operating procedures to support efficient operations. Monitors and maintains required records for compliance and quality assurance
  • May supervise technical staff working within the laboratory
  • Coordinates budget activities for the laboratory. Monitors and analyzes expenses. Makes recommendations for the purchase of new laboratory equipment.
  • Participates in the design, construction, equipping of laboratories. Coordinates preventative maintenance and repair to ensure safe and efficient operation. Orders new and replacement equipment. Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies.
  • Monitors compliance and quality. Assists in resolution of issues that arise in regard to research protocols.
  • Assists in the preparation for and coordination of outside regulatory inspections
  • Under the guidance of the Principal Investigator and/or Dir-Laboratory Operations, facilitates development of new projects; creates and implements new experimental approaches. Provides guidance to technical staff and laboratory personnel in the execution of experimental approaches
  • Conducts experiments and analyzes and presents results. May contribute to writing research reports and scientific publications
  • Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution
  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree is required

Minimum Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required
  • Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree
  • Three (3) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD
  • Leadership or supervisory experience is required.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000 - $139,360 per year for the role of Manager - Lab Operations (Dr. Gutierrez Lab - Oncology).
