Job Description

The Benefits Administrator assists in the administration of various employee benefit plans such as life, health, dental, disability insurances and pension plans.

The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.
What your day may look like
  • Administers employee benefits programs such as medical plans, term life insurance plans, disability programs, accidental death policies and Section 125 plans. This includes the processing of payments.
  • Administers employee retirement programs including the 401(k) and pension plans. This includes collecting and reporting of historical pay data for pension calculations and tracking eligibility for retiree health insurance.
  • Distributes benefits information to new employees for enrollment into the benefit plans.
  • Verifies enrollment of new employees into the benefit plans.
  • Provides new employees with an explanation of benefits and instructs them on enrollment procedures.
  • Handles benefit inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable and courteous resolution.
  • Maintains contact with insurance companies, employees and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.
  • Facilitates in claims research questions on behalf of employees with appropriate vendors
  • Notifies employees on layoff of procedures for continuation of benefits and collects insurance payments.
  • Maintains benefits files including employee benefit files and insurance contract files.
  • Ensures that monthly and quarterly payments are made to vendors.
  • Ensures that government required notifications are provided to plan participants, including all COBRA notifications.
  • Monitors and assists in the development of materials for employee benefit communication pieces.
  • Maintains files as related to the pension and welfare plans.
  • Other work-related duties as assigned by leader.
  • Reliable and regular attendance is expected.

Education and experience needed for this position

  • High school diploma is required.
  • Three years of work experience in benefits administration or related field is Required.
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A bachelor's degree may be substituted for experience.

  • ADP experience.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically MS Excel.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a busy work environment.

Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job
The work environment for this position is that of a typical office environment where the noise level is mostly quiet. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
