The Engineering Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for directing and coordinating all activities associated with plant equipment maintenance, maintenance spare parts and equipment inventories, and automation. This position will plan, organize, control, and integrate the completion of all automation and machinery controls projects and plant equipment maintenance, either by supervision of direct reports or by performing these duties directly. The person in this role will also be responsible for overall plant CMMS implementation, support, and maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Assist in achieving division goals through contributions in developing new products and product/process improvements.
  • Assist with resolution of daily production, equipment, and product issues.
  • Perform root cause analysis using SPC and/or lean manufacturing tools/methodologies to drive product and process yields and improvements.
  • Provide technical support for products, processes, equipment, tools, fixtures, gauges, etc.
  • Train and/or mentor engineering and production personnel on products, processes, and equipment.
  • Write test procedures, set up, perform, and monitor product and process validation tests.
  • Collect, reduce, analyze, present test data, and draw appropriate conclusions based on the data.
  • Assist with the organization, maintenance and utilization of engineering, product, and production-related documents.
  • Suggest materials, components and/or tolerances as appropriate to ensure product performance.
  • Interface with external contacts such as suppliers for component selection options and resolution of supply chain issues.
  • Interface with other Rite-Hite manufacturing facilities for product, process, and supply chain coordination.
  • Evaluate operational requirements and insures conformance of electrical and control system designs to requirements.
  • Collects and reviews data for machine design requirements, electric motor and Variable Speed Drive power requirements, and wiring of electromagnetic and PLC based control panels, Motor Control Centers (MCC), etc.
  • Research new instrumentation, evaluate and test control panels for compliance to organization needs and specifications.
  • Design and evaluate electro-mechanical machineries as per international safety standards and machine directive (OSHA, 2006/42/EC, ISO).
  • Prepare electrical control and instrumentation specification sheets, statement of work for automation equipment and assist purchasing personnel with technical procurement as required.
  • Ensure quality of mechanical designs and purchased components/systems by developing and documenting test plans.
  • Confer with suppliers on design details, costs, and schedules of purchased products; evaluating supplier parts/systems.
  • In designing machine controls, program PLCs of known vendors such as Allen Bradley, Siemens and HMI/SCADA systems such as Wonderware, PanelView and other similar devices to properly operate, monitor, and make safe the operation of our machinery.
  • Train other personnel in the installations, operation and troubleshooting of controls and equipment.
  • Responsible for installation and operation of completed panels and system in compliance with specifications and safety standards.
  • Remain cost conscious and practice effective cost control.
  • Must be able to properly plan engineering and maintenance workload, delegate work, and ensure timely completion of equipment PMs and engineering projects.
Required Experience:
  • Bachelor or Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics with emphasis on Electrical, Electrical Power Control, Electrical Drives and Advanced Control Systems.
  • 3 - 5 years of engineering and maintenance management experience.
  • 7 - 10 years of hands-on experience as an automation engineer.
  • Experience in designing/testing industrial automation and control systems including PID and other control methodologies.
  • The ideal candidate will be an expert in one or more of the following PLC and/or HMI systems - Rockwell Allen Bradley (ControlLogix/CompactLogix), Siemens, Wonderware, WinCC, Panelview Plus and will have hands-on programming experience.
  • Experience with industry standard communication protocols like Modbus, DeviceNet, Ethernet IP, ControlNet, Profibus, ProfiNet.
  • Experience with AC Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Experience with machine instrumentation and control system hardware.
  • Experience troubleshooting of industrial control systems.
  • This position requires strong communication skills, product liability awareness, and excellent decision-making abilities.
